Taking on a chair position was the first service position I had in this group. I am so glad I decided to try it because it really helped my Personal growth in Al-Anon. If you have ever led a face to face meeting this is really the same thing. You just have to write your share down. The template is set up for you to just fill in with CAL and your share.

I have been a Daily Chair 2 or 3 times, including one for Traditions and one for Concepts. The process was not hard and I chose to get all 12-14 of them for the quarter done in the first couple of weeks. It was a great commitment to be reflective about myself since the Daily Chair intro shares were about MY experience, strength, and hope. I also purposely chose Traditions and then Concepts because I knew so little about them. I was astounded to find that both had so much application to my daily life and all my relationships. I really grew a lot through this experience.

I did the newcomers meeting after I had only been in Al Anon for a few months. This was a VERY effective forced reflection on the foundations of Al Anon, steps 1,2 and 3. I got a ton out of doing this. It is a framework of reflection that I needed to do anyway as part of my step work. I feel that doing the newcomers meeting in particular was very helpful to me as a newcomer since it really solidified what Al Anon’s core is and helped me internalize steps 1, 2 and 3 as well as the fundamental concept’s of “Did not Cause, Can’t Control and Can’t Cure”, “Awareness, Acceptance and Action” ” Focus on Self”, “Detachment” , ” Letting go of Resentment and Self Pity” and the Serenity Prayer. I feel that internalizing those foundational messages is something that materially improved my life. Being the Daily Chair of these messages deepened the internalization of the concepts for me.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I got out of reading and thinking to prepare for each week as Chair. Also, there was good support for me when I had questions about procedure. I will happily volunteer again in the future.

I chaired more than once and every time I learned and grew from the experience. I had to settle down, think and pray to be inspired to share what needed to be shared. I went back to my documentation which was a blessing and chance to get back to basic. I encourage all of you to take the «jump» and dare. You will learn, you will grow and most of all ou will give back to this fellowship what you have received with such abundance! Don’t forget God is in charge…He will be with you all the way!!!

I am tempted to volunteer to chair the Concepts meetings for the coming quarter, simply because our District is hosting a Concepts workshop later this month, and I am intrigued about this topic. RSVP

I love being a Daily Chair. It’s nice to be able to share my experiences and be honest. I’ve also learned to share my transgressions and struggles. I’ve been doing it for about two years now, and I think it has helped me embrace Al-Anon faster and find peace in myself and from my HP.

Finding CAL to quote is easy because most CAL is indexed by topic. If you have a Kindle edition of CAL, you can search it for quotes, too.

As co-moderators Beth and I are also here to help with whatever you need – support for posting, questions about the process, and more.

If we don’t have a Daily Chair for each meeting, it’s possible that it will put our 24/7 availability at risk. And I admit, frankly, that this availability is why ASPFR is so special to me and others I’m in touch with.

I have served as a daily chair twice now in the few years I have been an AL-Anon member. The first time I was scared and intimidated, by second time I was enjoying the process immensely. I hope you will consider this great service opportunity, it has helped me in my path to recovery.

Have you ever done “re-runs”, the way they do with TV shows?

Some members of ASPFR could volunteer the content they wrote when they chaired a quarter of daily meetings a number of years ago, that is, if they kept a written copy.

It doesn’t require a lot of effort to re-enter those sharings into the upcoming calendar.

…or am I already signed up for Thursday CAL??
(I am at your service. In the current quarter I strayed quite far afield with my initial posts about lesser-known slogans, and I’m hoping to use them this time on either Sunday or Thursday, whichever you need. The lesser-known slogans would suit either.)
